Our team is composed of TWO types of volunteers.

General Volunteer

  1. Participate in training events, community outreach, and team gatherings
  2. Receive team updates and Colorado disaster news.
  3. Provide support to teammates with logistics, planning, and coordination support during training exercises and disaster response
  4. These are NO-animal contact volunteer roles

General Volunteers pay a $25 fee to cover insurance costs.

 

Boots-on-Ground Member

  1. Participate in a tryout event and receive a skillset assignment and be assigned to a response team.
  2. Participate in additional training to be qualified for roles within an active disaster area based on your team assignment, skillset, and interests. View our list of emergency services here.
  3. Receive additional insurance coverage for boots-on-ground activities and animal-contact roles
  4. Deploy into active disaster zones to support federal and local government response groups and other volunteer organizations 

Boots-on-Ground Members pay an additional $50 fee to contribute to the cost of additional insurance & training, safety & professional gear, and coordination staff time.

Get started with your General Volunteer training today.  It typically takes a new volunteer about 3 months to onboard with our team.

1.Submit an Application

Let us know about you and your interest in disaster reponse through our application.

2. Attend an MRC Orientation session

Attend an MRC Orientation session (hosted by RMMRC) to learn about your responsibilities as a volunteer and important details about membership with the MRC.

2. Complete General Volunteer Training

1. Complete two online FEMA training classes (IS 100.C & IS 700.B)

3. Register in the Colorado Volunteer Mobilizer (CVM)

5. Pay a $25 fee

This fee contributes to insurance costs.

Congrats!  After this step, you are a General Volunteer with the Rocky Mountain MRC (our parent unit).  At this point, you are able to:

  1. Participate in training events, community outreach, and team gatherings
  2. Receive team updates and Colorado disaster news.
  3. Provide support to teammates with logistics, planning, and coordination support during training exercises and disaster response

This qualifies you for NO-animal contact volunteer roles.

After becoming a General Volunteer, keep going with your training to our disaster services and be part of a Boots-on-Ground team during a disaster response.

Pay an additional $50

This fee contributes to the cost of additional insurance needed for hands-on, animal contact training.  Additionally, this fee covers team and supply needs for safely conducting team tryouts.

Training & tryouts 💪

Complete a boots-on-ground tryout to receive your skills assignment and training plan.

Complete additional training to qualify for deploying into disaster areas.  This additional training includes education on communication during disaster, public safety concerns while deployed, and advanced psychological resiliency skills.

Receive team assignment

Qualified Boots-on-Ground members are assigned to a specific disaster response team based on skillset and experience.

Participate in ongoing training

Keep your skills sharp by participating in the following annually

  1. One (1) First Friday resiliency training – virtual 2 hour workshop
  2. One (1) exercise, tabletop, or skill-building event
  3. One (1) team-building / community event
